Slavery Separated Them. Generations Later, They're Reuniting. | PBS Short Docs
Official Website: to.pbs.org/3FCanEX | #ReelSouth
Georgetown University sold hundreds of enslaved people to stave off bankruptcy, scattering families across the South, never to see each other again. With the help of DNA databases, their descendants are reconnecting six generations later. “Finding Us” is a portrait of four descendants who are using their unique talents to regrow the family trees felled nearly two centuries ago.

    If global warming means indigenous hunters no loner can take seal and bear to feed to their sled dogs, would that be so bad? Bears and seals are killed by hunters more than lack of sea ice.

    I enjoyed watching this. My only thing is qhen he said that poverty is the biggest threat to sustainability. I can't seem to find that true to in any regard. They're fishing for what they need. Its big conglomerate companies sell all kimds of fish product and then simply have it thrown away to only buy more and more fish to then be discarded again.

    My problem with this whole FBA movement is that the leader Tariq Nasheed, wants to cut the African piece of the history out of the puzzle , as if FBA’s story just magically started in America, I know I know I know! Tariq says there was black native Indians, then modern day Indians should share some DNA with modern day black Americans! Why not start a project with Native Americans get DNA test? Just like people on the continent of Africa should all get DNA test to be compared to black Americans and see how they’re related!

    • @bre9328
      @bre9328 18 годин тому

      I literally just left a Tariq debate where he acknowledges African ancestry and points to the fact that there were black tribes in America. The reason all of us can't do DNA comparisons with present-day Native Americans is because some of the Black Native tribes were wiped out, so there's no DNA to compare it to.

    There’s a scene in Come From Away, a play based on true events in Newfoundland Canada on 9/11. A Rabbi from a plane is approached by a local old man. The old man told the rabbi that his parents told him to never tell anyone he was Jewish, not even his wife. The events of that day that silenced so many stories convinced him that his story should be told. We should remember those stories.
